The public nomination phase for the European Inventor Award 2012 is now open. Anyone can join in the search for Europe's finest inventors.
Individual inventors, small and large enterprises, universities and research institutions can enter themselves for the Award or be nominated by someone else. There is one common criterion: they must have been awarded a European patent for their invention.
The EPO will check the proposals to ensure they meet the formal and legal requirements, before passing them on to a jury featuring prominent figures from science and business, who will judge entries on their degree of innovation, commercial impact and their contribution to technological, social and economic progress.
The 2012 Awards will be presented in five categories - industry, SMEs, research, non-European countries and lifetime achievement. Three finalists in each category will be invited to the award ceremony in Copenhagen in spring 2012, where the winners will be announced.
Entry forms and information about how to submit a nomination are available on this website. The deadline for submissions is 8 September 2011.
