Turkey ranked 11 th. in creative goods exports in Global Innovation Index 2011

In Global Innovation Index 2011, Turkey has been positioned at the 11th place in terms of "creative goods exports", leaving behind world's giant economies such as the United States (27th), Germany (35th), Spain (37th), Canada (43rd) and Finland (63rd).

Turkey has been ranked the 11th in "creative goods exports" category in this year's Global Innovation Index.

The index, an annual report assessing 125 countries across the world in terms of their innovation capabilities, evaluates the countries in a total of seven pillars that are "Institutions", "Human capital & research", "Infrastructure", "Market sophistication", "Business sophistication", "Scientific outputs" and "Creative outputs".

Commenting on the success in an interview with AA, President Baybars Altuntas of Business Angels Association of Turkey (TBAA) said that such position would yield to fruitful results starting from 2012.
"This report will turn Turkey into a heaven for World Business Angels starting from next year," Altuntas said.

The official also noted that Turkey was particularly in good position in the economy-related categories of the Global Innovation Index.

Altuntas said Turkey shared the 13th place with the United States in "Time to start a business (in days)" category, as it ranked the 25th in "depth of credit information", the 28th in "percentage in GDP of total value of stocks traded", the 13th for "intensity of local competition", the 25th in terms of "R&D financed by businesses" and the 21st in "creative services exports".

Altuntas said Turkey was positioned the 65th in general ranking in this year's Global Innovation Index.
The Global Innovation Index 2011 ranks 125 countries/economies in terms of their innovation capabilities and results. The report highlights those countries that achieve more innovation outputs surmounting weaknesses from the input side ? the efficient innovators ? and those that lag behind in fulfilling their innovation potential. Innovation performances are analyzed in reference to the income and regional groups.

The GII is a collaborative effort of five Knowledge Partners, all international leaders in the area of innovation, led by the international graduate business school & research institution INSEAD, and including Alcatel-Lucent, Booz & Company, the Confederation of Indian Industry and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a specialized agency of the United Nations.
